My Degree

I graduated from Lancaster University in 2003 with BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Multimedia Systems.

The course covered a wide range of material, from extremely low-level machine code and algorithms to remote procedure calls and object-oriented databases. The main languages taught were Java and C, although we were given the opportunity to explore C# which I have taken advantage of in recent projects.

Our group-based second year research report seems to be available online. Yes, we got to play Half Life!

Whilst at University, I was heavily involved in the student radio station Bailrigg FM and my Final Year Project involved the production of a comprehensive DJ Console. This incorporated an interactive record library, retrieval of E-mail and SMS messages (as well as the ability to run votes or competitions by text message), detailed track logging as well as accurate weather and advert information. The project was also modified slightly for entry to the Technical Innovation category of the 2003 Student Radio Awards, although I did not get nominated. More information may be found on the mini-site.
